Traditional code allows step-by-step analysis; neural networks offer only statistical correlations.
The Next Frontier: VLA and World Models
The cutting edge of autonomous driving research has moved beyond pure end-to-end. Visual-Language-Action (VLA) models integrate large language models into the driving architecture, creating systems that can understand verbal commands, read traffic signs, interpret construction signage, and reason about unfamiliar situations. These models inject human-like common sense and logical reasoning into the driving loop, though they face significant challenges in real-time processing speed: reasoning takes seconds, while driving requires millisecond responses.
Why It Matters
